Baclofen Pump

With tetraspasticity (spasticity of all four limbs), it is possible to treat patients with medication for muscle relaxation. Various medications are available which can either be injected directly into the muscle or taken orally. Their effect may not be sufficient or systemic side effects may occur. Medication pumps are available for such cases.

The Baclofen pump provides a muscle relaxing substance directly to the spinal canal. The dosage and rate of infusion can be regulated. By administering the medication into the immediate area of the nerve tissue, it is possible to enhance the muscle-relaxing effect and decrease systemic side effects. The Baclofen pump must be surgically implanted. The patient's care is handled in cooperation with our in-house Neurological Center for Social Pediatrics.
